Love is…

As followers of Yahweh, we are called to love as He first loved us.~1 John 4:19

But how do we love? While the world is full of counterfeit love that does not last, let’s seek out the true love that lasts.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

True love is a lot of things… not just three words we say today and destroy tomorrow.

I love you.

What does love truly mean?

  1. 1. Cor. 13:13 days the greates thing is love and I believe that with all my heart! 💜 I think love is kind, patient, and sacrificial; I think you can say “I love you…” all ou want but it is truly shown by actions. I think their are different types of love, too, (friend/sisterly bond/husband-wife, all of those are different). If they are on your mind, if you do special things for them, if you let them cry in your shoulder, stuff like that. 😌 Nice post!

  2. When the Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the church in Corinth he did because he was addressing the problems that the church was facing at that time and to give instructions on marriage, disputes, immorality, public worship and lawsuits. There practical lessons are appropriate words of wisdom for Christians still today. In we read the chapter before Paul talks about unity and diversity in the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 13 is read many times at weddings or even funeral, however it is instructions of how we should act within the body of Christ. Greater love has no one than this:to lay down one’s life for one’s friend. (The words of Jesus in John 15:13) that is what love is all about.

  3. Amen! Love prefers what God prefers, which is what is holy, righteous, faithful, honest, pure, virtuous, etc. So, love does no harm to others but only what is for their good, as God calls good.

Therefore, if we love each other we won’t tell each other lies. We won’t deceive or trick or manipulate one another. We won’t take from others what is not rightfully ours to have. We won’t lust after each other or commit adultery against another. And, we won’t gossip about or slander one another to try to raise ourselves up and to make them look bad.

But, we will look to meet the legitimate needs of others, and we will listen with our hearts and not just our ears when they cry out to us for help. And we will do for them what is God’s best for them, which is sometimes to speak the truth in love. And we will value and honor them as fellow human beings who have needs just like us , and we won’t treat them like they are nothing and that they don’t matter.

  4. And to love is also to obey !!

    Jesus said in:

    John 14:15
    15 “If you love Me,
    keep My commandments.

    John 15:10
10 If you keep My commandments,
you will abide in My love,
just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

    John wrote in:

    1 John 5:3
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.
And His commandments are not burdensome.
